The Cosmetic Industry Buyers and Suppliers (CIBS) association held its monthly luncheon on Wednesday, March 10, at the Manhattan Club at Rosie O’Grady’s in New York City. The highlight of this edition of the luncheon, as is every March, was the awarding of the Gene Roberts Memorial Scholarship.

Gene Roberts, who for many years worked in purchasing at Dana Perfumes, was influential in the development of CIBS during its formative years. He was also a past president of the organization. Prior to Roberts’ passing, the board established the Gene Roberts Award, given to a senior in the Packaging Department at Rutgers University. After Roberts died, CIBS renamed it the Gene Roberts Memorial Scholarship. This year’s winner is Anthony Mele, and he was honored at the luncheon and presented with a check for $3,000.

Upcoming for CIBS is the Spring Cocktail Party taking place aboard the Bateaux glass-enclosed New York Harbor cruise ship on Thursday, March 18. Leaving from Chelsea Piers, the 3-hour cruise will feature a jazz trio, a DJ in a separate area for dancing, food and an open bar.
